Interfaith Dining Hall
St. Mary’s Interfaith Community Services
Stockton, California
The focal point of a major facilities expansion, the St. Mary’s Interfaith Dining Hall is a visually inspiring environment in which the basic needs of Stockton’s homeless population can be met. Sited beneath a major freeway interchange, the Dining Hall features a high, vaulted ceiling supported by laminated wood beams, clerestory windows, and a curving metal roof which echoes the path of the highway arching overhead. Constructed using materials that are durable and easy to maintain, the Dining Hall is bathed in a distinctive color palette of pastel green, lavender, and yellow, creating a sense of warmth and serenity that uplifts the human spirit. The Dining Hall is flanked by a new medical clinic that houses exam rooms, a pharmacy, offices, and conference space for the physicians who volunteer their services at St. Mary’s.
This project earned an Award of Excellence from the City of Stockton.
