Janssen Residence
Stockton, California
Sited adjacent to a golf course in Stockton’s upscale Brookside development, the Janssen residence employs competing forms in a modernist architectural theme.
Brookside development’s architectural standards called for all home to incorporate a primary sloping roof element as the central roof form. LDA Partners’ solution was to incorporate horizontal roof forms to compliment the sloping roof, and to introduce a vertical “tower” element to emphasize the modernist theme.
The central living space repeats the sloping form and incorporates strong horizontal and vertical elements such as tower stairs and a balcony “bridge” that maintain the energy of the competing forms.
The Janssen residence earned an Award for Excellence in Design from the American Institute of Architects.
