LDA is finishing up Construction Documents for the new Animal Shelter for the City of Lodi. This new facility will replace an undersized and outdated existing facility.
As part of this project, LDA also provided programming confirmation workshops, and conceptual design in order to establish phasing protocols, infrastructure needs and upgrades, and cost estimating. Once the conceptual design was complete and accepted by the city stakeholders, our team advanced into design development and construction documents. This project is anticipated to start construction in early summer.
The form and materials draw inspiration from the industrial and agricultural surroundings of the site and the greater community. Exposed steel elements and wood-like panels contribute a sense of warmth to the building, while a large glass entry enhances its welcoming appeal.
Inside the facility, there are designated areas to house different animals, including dogs, cats, and exotic animals. Additionally, the building accommodates office spaces, public and staff restrooms, a vet clinic area, and a versatile multi-use room that opens up to a covered exterior space. The animal housing areas are thoughtfully designed to create a welcoming environment that ensures the best possible experience for those looking to adopt a pet.
Sitework for the project includes the construction of a public parking area, dedicated staff parking spaces, dog exercise yards, and a dog run area. These features are essential for the proper functioning of the shelter and to provide suitable spaces for animals and visitors alike.
