Project Overview

The Town of Truckee needs a new library to service the greater Truckee/Tahoe region and complement the existing literary services. By engaging in comprehensive community outreach efforts, which involved conducting community meetings, online surveys, and stakeholder programming sessions, LDA has designed a new 21,000sf library that caters to the needs of the community.
The new library will encompass various program spaces that will benefit the community. These include a spacious 2,000-square-foot community room equipped with a kitchen, staff workspaces, storage facilities, and restrooms. Additionally, there will be a bookstore, a community living room, collaborative learning spaces, and meeting rooms. Furthermore, the library will offer a designated section for teenagers and a dedicated children’s collection area complete with a Storytime space. To cater to adults, there will be collections of books and resources, including historic materials. Lastly, the library will provide outdoor learning and reading areas.
To create a modern and inviting atmosphere that reflects the architectural vernacular of the local community, the design adopts a contemporary-alpine architectural style. This library will incorporate modern services and amenities that cater to the needs of both visitors and staff, ensuring that the local library system is brought into the 21st century.
